Winn-Dixie Pharmacy Accident Lawyer
Taking medication properly is just as important as taking it. When we pick up our prescriptions, the pharmacist will include directions as to how frequently to take the medication, how it should be taken, and what side effects we may encounter. Medication can have a powerful effect on our bodies, so following directions carefully is essential. If we fail to take medication as prescribed, it may cause stomach pains, headaches, or other discomfort. If we don’t take the right dosage or don’t take all of the pills given to us, it may not be effective.
But what happens if the directions that we receive are wrong? Perhaps they are missing key instructions that you need? All pharmacies are required to provide the correct information to their patients. If a Winn-Dixie pharmacists fails to indicate the dosage and proper way to take medication, patients may experience symptoms that they shouldn’t. Symptoms can range from minor to severe. If you have been injured as the result of missing or incorrect prescription directions, you should seek the advice of a Winn-Dixie pharmacy error attorney. The personal injury attorneys at Wolfson & Leon can help. Find out what your rights are by calling the Winn Dixie pharmacy mistake attorneys at (305) 285-1115 for a free consultation.
History of Winn-Dixie Winn-Dixie grocery stores were founded by William Milton Davis back in 1925. Opening their first store in Miami called the Rockmoor Grocery, the chain grew to four stores before its name was changed to Table Supply. Davis and his sons continued to expand, reaching 33 stores by 1931 that were scattered between Miami and Tampa. Davis passed away in 1934, leaving his four sons to continue running the business. Eventually, they purchased a chain of 73 stores known as Winn & Lovett and, in 1945, they changed the name to Winn-Dixie.
Known as “the Beef People,” Winn-Dixie continued to grow throughout Florida and eventually expanded into other states such as Texas, Oklahoma, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Virginia, and both North and South Carolina. Several locations offered in-store pharmacies. In 2005, they filed for bankruptcy, closing several stores. They currently operate in Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, and Mississippi.
Injury Due to Mistakes in Prescription Directions Following the directions that accompany your prescriptions is important. Pharmacists can make errors when instructing patients as to how to take their medicine. Common mistakes include:
- Wrong dosage – Failing to tell a patient how much medication to take can cause a patient to overdose on the medicine. This can result in minor to serious side effects on the patient’s health, depending upon the medication. In addition, if the dosage is too small, the medicine may not help at all.
- Incorrect frequency – Depending upon the illness, patient history, and medication, prescription drugs may need to be taken multiple times throughout the day to be effective or at certain times during the day. Without knowing how frequently medication should be taken, patients may unknowingly take too much. Some medication can make you drowsy, so taking it at night may produce the least side effects.
- Wrong directions – Pharmacies that do not provide complete directions, these can lead to serious injury. Omitting side effects, when to take medication, or advising whether or not to take with food or liquids can render prescriptions less effective or may not provide enough information to let a patient know if something is wrong. As an example, blood pressure or cholesterol medication may not work properly if taken with grapefruit juice. In other cases, directions for the wrong medication may be provided. Without this key information, the medication may not help with these conditions. This can cause injury to patients as may be taking their prescription drugs incorrectly.
